tried some deadlifts today but out of shape with a weak back

tried some  deadlifts today  but out of shape with a weak back, used to be  really in shape, but let it all go after  a bad shoulder injury and the  usual ibs, trying some deadlifts to try and strenghten the  back as it has got difficult to bend over,  deadlifts strengthen the  spinal column really quick, i have  found  from  experience just  a light  weight though dont want anymore  injuries, just doing reps between  6 and 10.
